This map shows the area just two years before the tube station at the Oval opened but forty years after Vauxhall Bridge Station (as it was then called) opened. The opening of the first bridge at Vauxhall in 1816 and then the coming of the railway in 1848 led the way for large scale developments to proceed in the area.
