During the 1980's, US activists played a large role in undermining Shell Oil's backing of the apartheid regime. But Nigerians suffering under Sani Abacha's dictatorship have not been the recipients of such widespread public support. Shell has been accused of arming the brutal militia that enforce the company's security policies and, in 1996, Ogoni activist Ken Saro-Wiwa was executed by the dictatorship. In this short video, Dr. Kayode Fayemi (NALICON), Mike Fleshman (Africa Fund), Kakuna Kerina (CPJ and Jumoke Ogunkeyede (Kudirat) deconstruct the situation and explain how Nigeria can be pulled from the grips of the corporate-backed regime.
